Xavier University Players Present Tim Robbins' 'Dead Man Walking' Â? Tristate Regional Premiere February 24-27

Cincinnati, OH (PRWEB) January 25, 2005

The Xavier University Players proudly presents the tristateÂ?s regional premier of Dead Man Walking adapted for the stage by Tim Robbins at The Gallagher Student Center Theater, on the Xavier University campus, 15 University Drive, in Cincinnati, on February 24-27 at 7:30 pm. with an additional Sunday matinee at 2 pm. Plenty of free parking is available nearby. Tickets are available in advance by calling the box office at 513-745-3576.

Xavier University is the only theatre in the tristate region producing this new adaptation of Dead Man Walking by Tim Robbins. Based on the nonfiction book by Sister Helen Prejean, the riveting drama was an acclaimed major motion picture released in 1996 starring Susan Sarandon and Sean Penn.

Directed by Cathy Springfield, Dead Man Walking stars Xavier University seniors Andy Oare as convicted killer Matthew Poncelet and Katy Leslie as Sr. Helen Prejean. A film detailing the rape and murder of Hope Percy and the murder of Walter Deleacroix will be a part of this drama. CCM sound designer Chuck Hatcher joins the Xavier production team in creating a moving soundscape for the intimate production.

Time is running out for a convicted death row inmate. The clock is ticking as the time of Matthew Poncelet's execution draws near. A convicted killer, Poncelet enlists the help of Sister Helen Prejean, a Catholic nun who becomes his spiritual advisor as he desperately tries to gain a stay of execution. At the same time, Sister Prejean also comes to know the families of PonceletÂ?s victims and the men who will execute him. From this dreadful intimacy comes a moving spiritual journey through our system of capital punishment confronting both the plight of the condemned and the rage of the bereaved in our crime-ridden society.

The Xavier University PlayersÂ?s exclusive production will be coordinated with other campus activities and explorations into the subject of capital punishment. For more details, call Cathy Springfield at 513-745-3578.

Tickets are $ 12.00 for adults and $ 5.00 for all students. Tickets can be purchased by phone in advance by calling Tracy at the box office at 513-745-3576.

New Documentary Film "Xavier: Missionary & Saint" to Premiere on PBS Stations Nationwide

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011

The Xavier: Missionary

Harrington Park, NJ (PRWEB) December 5, 2007

Janson Media today announced the broadcast premiere of the new one-hour documentary film, "Xavier: Missionary & Saint," on PBS stations nationwide. Narrated by Academy Award-winner Liam Neeson and filmed on location in the footsteps of the Jesuit missionary, "Xavier" features stunning scenery from Rome, Spain, Paris, India, China, and Japan as well as interviews with world-renowned historians and theologians. The film commemorates the 500th anniversary of the birth of the most successful missionary since St. Paul.

"Xavier" was produced by Jeremy Zipple and Jeff Johnson for Fourth Week Films and the New Orleans Province of the Society of Jesus. The film was written by Johnson, directed by Zipple, and edited by Justin Ulbrich. The music was composed by Anthony Francis Rosado, and the role of Francis Xavier is played by Ron Garcia. "While there is some good historical scholarship on Xavier, there are not a lot of background stories," said Johnson. "We're trying to tell them." The experience of making the film and of hearing stories of Xavier from Jesuits around the world "was a grace-filled part of the experience," said Zipple. "I really felt his presence in a profound way."

"This is the story of a missionary who died alone on a desolate island within sight of the land of his life's dream," says Liam Neeson in the film's introduction. "He was unaware that he had forever changed the face and the race of Christianity."

The production of "Xavier" was financed by the New York, Chicago, Maryland, and California Provinces of the Society of Jesus, as well as the Jesuit Conference and private donors. The documentary is distributed exclusively by New Jersey-based Janson Media for all media worldwide. The DVD of "Xavier: Missionary & Saint," released by Janson Media in December 2006, includes such special features as an interview with Avery Cardinal Dulles S.J., the film's original trailer, a "Behind the Scenes" Photo Gallery, and "The Making of… Xavier" featurette. The documentary itself was filmed in widescreen, 16:9 format.
